I really enjoyed working on this art piece. I had a lot of fun during this experience and the time that I spent was well worth it. I tried many new things while working on this art piece. One thing I tried that was new was carving. I never really took the time to carve while working with clay but it was an enjoyable experience.
Trying to carve was pretty easy once I got the hang of it. I was able to smoothly run a sharp tool against the clay and with my vision I got the result I wanted. Some challenges that came with this included, not getting the exact shape I wanted each time I carved something new.
A material that I used that was new as far as clay goes included, the exacto knife. I had never used this tool while working with clay but it made everything so much easier when I did use this tool. I tried to only use this one tool because, for one, it was the only tool that I really needed and two it made everything so much easier compared to all the other tools and this process.
I stepped back many time to analyze my work of art. I wanted others to see my vision or a vision close to mine when they looked at my work. There it a desert scene on one canvas and a farming scene on the other. I wanted people to look at it and say "wow this person really was creating a calm yet comforting scene".
Reflecting on my work helped me out a lot during this process. I had to reflect not only on my art work but also on myself during this time. Reflecting on myself during this time really made me see that, I wanted a peaceful yet comforting art piece.
What I discovered about myself and my artwork during this time is that I am a perfectionist. It's like if my artwork is not done a certain way or to a certain extent I can get a little frustrated or upset. I wanted my art piece to come a certain way and I was and still am determined for it to come out that way.
Observing my surrounding environment helped me out a lot during this art process. I looked at nature and looked at how other viewed nature and its qualities and put that with my art work. I wanted my art work to alor reflect everyday life and all of it's qualities.
I was able to capture likeness of the subject matter by knowing that whatever I made I wanted it to reflect nature and being that this was 3-D art I wanted it to pop.
Close observation was very important during this process because, I saw that I was able to use the nature and the outside for inspiration. I wanted to really make sure that my art reflected nature in a positive light. I know that once I paint this piece and everything is officially done then this will show my vision and everything that this piece standing for.
